Dot NAME Domains

Introduced in 2001, the Dot NAME generic extension is the sole TLD supposed to be for personal sites only. These domain names can be personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other labels people are popular by. Initially, just third-level registrations were possible, so if you wished to purchase john.doe.name, you were supposed to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already grabbed third-level domains remained working.
